October 31, 2013

Teacher, leader and researcher Paul Barach, MD, MPH, maintains certifications with the American Board of Anesthesiology and is board certified in anesthesia and critical. Additionally, Dr. Paul Barach has completed multiple certification courses, including the Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program (ATP), and the Josiah Medical Education Fellowship.

A 6 month, 20-day in residence course, the ATP is the lead US training program for quality leaders and teaches and provides the tools for implementing process management and quality improvement. The program serves all types of medical professionals, including senior leaders and hands-on health care workers, and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

Divided into four sessions, the program relies on the teachings of national experts who cover multiple topics, including cost-based accounting, outcome measurement, research methods, and protocol development. During the course, each participant completes and delivers a report on an improvement project, to which analysts provide feedback during a consultation.

Paul was then invited to be faculty at the ATP program and was part of the national faculty from 2001-2007.
